Position Type/Hours:

Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.


Main Lab, 415 6th Street, Lewiston, Idaho

Primary Function:

Under the direction of the Microbiology Manager or Microbiology Technologist, performs accessing and set-up of specimens for clinical microbiology tests and procedures.

Work Performed:

  • Receipt of specimens and entry into computer system.
  • Routine set-ups for microbiology cultures observing aseptic techniques.
  • Follow specific guidelines for specimen acceptance and set-up.
  • Assist with receipt of inventory and media QC.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and QC of equipment.
  • Maintain clean and stocked work areas.
  • Perform specific stain, i.e. gram stain.
  • Process ova and parasite specimens.
  • Prepare AFB specimens for shipment.
  • Participate in continuing education, Quality of Service and Quality Control Indicators.
  • Display a helpful and courteous attitude and professional appearance at all times.
  • Communicate in a professional manner, maintaining patient/client confidentiality.
  • Complies with established department policies, procedures and standards of operation; enforces safety and infection control policies and established.
  • Cooperates with department and laboratory staff to maintain harmonious working relationships among employees.
  • Attends meetings as required such as in-service meetings, department meetings, etc.
  • Works with Compliance Officer on issues pertaining to Medicare/Medicaid regulations to assure 100% compliance.

Experience Background:

Knowledge of laboratory microbiology desirable.

Knowledge of laboratory computer/keyboard entry desirable.

Skills such as phlebotomy desirable.

Educational Background:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Valid driver’s license required.
