Laboratory Assistant
Position Type/Hours:
Full-time, Monday – Friday, 3:00pm – 12:00am
Location:
Core Lab, Lewiston, Idaho
Primary Function:
Support Core Lab, Specimen Processing, and Microbiology by processing and setting up specimens for testing, performing maintenance, monitoring inventory, and performing other duties as assigned.

- Collaborate with department and laboratory staff to maintain productive working relationships among employees.
- Understand and adhere to all safety and HIPAA related standards to ensure high quality patient care.
- Receipt of specimens and entry into computer system.
- Follow specific guidelines for specimen acceptance and set-up.
- Assist with routine set-ups for microbiology cultures observing aseptic techniques.
- Assist with preventive maintenance and QC of equipment.
- Perform specific stain, i.e. gram stain.
- Process ova and parasite specimens. waived testing accurately and proficiently.
- Participate in continuing education, Quality of Service and Quality Control Indicators.
- Complies with established department policies, procedures, and standards of operation; enforces safety and infection control policies and established.
- Communicate in a professional manner, maintaining patient/client confidentiality.
- Demonstrate accuracy and proficiency in registering and ordering laboratory tests through the laboratory information system.
- Works with Compliance Officer on issues pertaining to Medicare/Medicaid regulations to assure 100% compliance.
- Labels specimens accurately and according to established procedures.
- Handles requests for special services such as STAT and Timed draw specimens, prudently and efficiently.
- Ensure the requisition order contains the appropriate information for each patient.
- Help monitor and stock inventory.
- Maintain clean and stocked work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
