Handling: SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 1 ml amniotic fluid obtained via trans-abdominal amniocentesis or from a free flowing or carefully tapped vaginal sample. Stable 72 hours refrigerated or frozen. Do not use samples contaminated with visible blood, meconium, maternal urine or that is visibly icteric. Do not centrifuge. PROCEDURE: Performed on the Abbott TDX flex by Fluorescence Polariazation Assay (mg surfactant/g albumin). Performed daily. Routine turnaround time is 2 hours. Stat turnaround time is 1 hour. REFERENCE RANGE: Immature 55 mg/g
